New York’s Capital Region is the center of “Tech Valley” which is rapidly becoming the hot spot for innovative high technology organizations. The area is attracting a growing number of companies engaged in the research and development of semiconductors and nanotechnology-related applications. With nine major commercial laboratories, including International Sematech, the College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering’s Albany NanoTech Complex and Clean Energy Incubator, GE Global Research facility, and GE Healthcare X-ray Mammography Technology facility, businesses are partnering with our world-class educational institutions. Area Development Magazine’s 2010 Gold Shovel Project of the Year was awarded to New York’s biggest development project in decades, GlobalFoundries, a $4.8 billion chip fab manufacturing facility in Saratoga County.

The Capital Region includes the counties of: Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren and Washington. Home to Albany, the state capital, it is the link between New York City, Boston, Montreal and Central New York State. The tri-cities of Schenectady, Albany, and Troy are rich in history, and offer urban conveniences amidst easily accessible year-round natural outdoor pleasures: including the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, and the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers.
